Book Design: Steve Jobs Biography

The assignment was to design a book which documents the historical significance of an influential person using the Time 100 list of most influential people as a reference. This book illustrates the significance of Steve Jobs’ contributions to the world of technology and communication. As a Mac user, I've always been interested in the story of Steve Jobs, so this was the perfect opportunity for me to learn as much about him as possible.
I had a lot of fun experimenting with different materials. The cover itself is made out of three different materials: mylar for the smooth silver area, acetate for the shinny iPod screen, and card stock for the white circle in the middle, which is actually embossed.
I designed this timeline to resemble apps on an iPod or iPad screen. It chronicles his life by describing his failures, accomplishments, and happy accidents that helped his career.
This spread took a lot of prototyping to get right. I wanted one spread that showed his slightly darker side, the side of him that wanted to control the technology that we use everyday. This is green vellum with a laser print. The user lifts it up vertically to reveal a page about the cult-ural revolution his products have created. I took this photo myself of people waiting in line. It is a montage of several photos I took of my friends and myself dressed in different outfits.
